What VDOlocal Is

VDOlocal is video-commerce infrastructure for India's local retailers — and it runs on an architecture most people never see. There are no origin servers to scale, no regional outages to wait out, and no commission skimmed off a shopkeeper's sale. The entire platform lives on the network edge, milliseconds from the buyer.

The Architecture

VDOlocal is built end-to-end on Cloudflare's global edge platform, which lets a small team operate at national scale with the reliability of infrastructure many times its size.

• Edge-native compute. Every request is served by code running in 300+ cities worldwide (Cloudflare Workers), so a shopper in Nagpur and a shopper in Kochi both hit a server a few milliseconds away. There is no central server to overload.
• Data at the edge. Catalogues, orders, and storefronts live in a distributed SQL database (Cloudflare D1) co-located with the compute that reads it — fast queries, no round-trips to a distant data centre.
• Geospatial discovery. Storefronts are GPS-anchored, and buyers discover shops by true physical proximity using a two-stage spatial search (an indexed bounding-box pass followed by precise nearest-neighbour ranking) computed right at the edge from the request's own location signal.
• Video without the overhead. Sellers upload product videos and go live directly to Cloudflare Stream; live shopping rooms are coordinated by stateful edge objects (Durable Objects) that keep chat, viewers, and the product shelf in lockstep in real time.
• Money that goes straight to the merchant. Payments settle directly into the seller's own UPI / bank account. VDOlocal takes zero commission on sales — a deliberate contrast with marketplaces that deduct anywhere from 0.6% to 30% per order.
• One backend, many front doors. The same edge APIs power the seller dashboard (a React PWA, also shipped as native iOS and Android apps) and the buyer-facing experience, with signed webhooks keeping every surface in sync.

The result is a platform that is fast everywhere, resilient by default, and economical enough to give a single-shop retailer the same digital storefront a national brand would pay an agency to build.

VDOlocal's approach to local commerce is protected by a portfolio of five patent applications filed in India by TalentGlow LLP (operating as VDOlocal), a DPIIT-recognised startup. Together they cover a connected system for discovering, trusting, and transacting with local and institutional merchants online:

• Proximity-Node Merchant Discovery with a Phygital Conversion Layer — how a buyer discovers nearby physical shops through video and converts that discovery into a real-world sale, including proximity-radius search, "Keep For Me" reservations, and per-product "Price on Inquiry" routing.
• Association-Based Canonical Discovery Architecture — a model that lets an industry association host its members under one canonical web presence so collective search authority compounds as members are added, rather than every small shop competing alone.
• Retailer-Anonymised Institutional Discovery with Silent Geolocation Routing — a way for certified retailers to surface products under a trusted association brand while their identity stays private until a buyer enquiry is silently routed to the nearest certified member.
• Closed-Loop Supply-Side Content with a Field-Level Visibility Matrix — a single source of truth that deterministically projects one record into a public page and a private B2B page, so commercially sensitive fields can never leak onto the open web.
• Unified Exporters Infrastructure (UEI) — infrastructure extending the platform to India's exporters.
